The Shire of Victoria Plains is delighted to be facilitating the provision of exercise classes designed especially for older community members, to aide in the
prevention of injury and improve their general physical and mental wellbeing, thus increasing our senior’s capacity to live independently.
The program has been developed as the result of community consultation and the implementation of the Shire of Victoria Plains Age Friendly Community Plan
which was adopted by Council in 2016. The classes are being offered at a heavily subsidised rate of just $2/class thanks to funding secured through the Department of Local Government and Communities along with a contribution from the Shire of Victoria Plains. Participants will be under the capable
guidance of local instructor Natalie Cahill who possesses a Bachelor of Science (Human Movement) and 20 years experience in the health, fitness and wellness industry. Natalie is developing sessions aimed at improving senior’s cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and flexibility through a varied program that will include appropriate cardio and weight based exercises culminating with specific stretching exercises. In addition seniors will have regular contact and
conversations with others during the classes and this should have a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing. At the end of the 10 week block
of classes seniors will be rewarded with a healthy lunch, at the Five Roads Café.
Classes will commence on Wednesday 19 July starting at 10.30am at the Calingiri Recreation Hall (Yulgering Road, Calingiri) and will run every Wednesday thereafter, during school terms. All participants will be required to complete a medical questionnaire prior to their first class and obtain a medical clearance to participate if necessary. For more information on the program please contact the Shire of Victoria Plains on 9628 7004 or email reception@victoriaplains.wa.gov.au.
