postiesCongratulations to Araina and Robert Arthur who officially took over the management of the Gingin Post Office on the 2nd September.

Dressed in full uniform for their first day, they were full of excitement and anticipation. The move is a big one, not only do they have a new business to run but they also say goodbye to city life as they embrace moving to their new home in the country, living at the post office.

Araina and Robert met and married in 2009 through working in Metropolitan Post Offices. Robert originally hails from Sydney where he had 20 years with Australia Post, until he saw the sense of a move to WA in 2000.

Araina will tell you that she is born and bred WA. She has served 20 years with Australia Post. Her family has a prior connection with this part of the world. The opportunity to acquire the P.O. and dwelling had always been a tentative plan for Araina and her father JIM ADAM, Jim owned a block of land in the area prior to this move.

They understand the task of replacing the retiring Postmaster will be a challenge but they intend to give the best service to the town. There are likely to be some changes in how they run things and they ask that people understand their need to adhere to the guidelines and contract by Australia Post.

Robert will be mostly delivering the mail, and he has a small supply of free letter boxes available for any home that may like one.

Outside of the P.O. life, Araina holds an interest in keeping birds, chooks anything with feathers. She has also got a plan to at last set up a sewing room. Roberts interests include running an old car, playing music of all variety. He has just had to retire from performing with a long standing Country Music BAND named WILDFIRE.

There will be one last gig being played for New Years Eve in TOODYAY 31/12/13. The band has played all over WA for the last 8 years. It is led by Alan SPOWART. One of Bevans ‘wild bees’ stung Rob recently, and he now feels like a local. They would like to thank Bevan and Margaret for allowing them the honour of carrying on the work, wishing them the best for retirement.
