Bullsbrook Community Help Group and the volunteers who assisted them during the pandemic.

As COVID-19 restrictions steadily came into effect from March this year, a core group of community members stepped up to help those most effected by being in isolation, forming the Bullsbrook Community Help Group. The group were supported by a wider network of volunteers, who were invited to a special morning tea to thank them for their efforts on Saturday 31 October at the Ethel Warren Bullsbrook Community Centre.

Founded by Sonya Crook, Holly Carruthers, Julie Radoll, Tanya Cornelius and Maxine Aitken the group set about providing practical help to those in need, from sourcing donations of essential food items, collecting scripts, a friendly chat on the phone, organising dogs to be walked and even rehoming Dora, the Dorper lamb!

Maxine says, “We would like to thank everyone who assisted the group in any way. Without you we would have floundered from the start!

“Bullsbrook Community Help Group will always be here to help. Although restrictions have eased, the team has decided to remain as a background support for the community in case of any further local emergencies.”

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey thanked the group via a letter, stating, “The pandemic and self-isolation is daunting and it is the work your organisation does that truly unites us together against COVD-19.

“I know you are doing this not for recognition, but to contribute. However, I want to personally thank you for your generosity.”
