It’s true! Prince Harry did visit our much loved Bindoon Bakehaus on Friday 1st May and ordered a banoffee éclair.
Staff at Bindoon Bakehaus all had a chance to meet with the Prince .
Co Owner Leanne Phillipson said staff immediately recognised Prince Harry and described him as “just lovely”.
“He was with a whole bunch of other (military) crew and were here for about 15 minutes,” she said.
The pastry chef and counter staff all had a brush with royalty.
“We said ‘you don’t have to pay for it’ so he ended up putting the money into one of the charity bins,” Leanne said.
“He talked to all the staff and was extremely pleasant.
“We now have royal-approved banoffee éclairs.
“He said he’d heard lots of good things about the bakery and that the guys had said to him that they had basically paid for the refurbishment of the bakery because they come in here so often.”
All credit to Leanne Phillipson and to co owner and Director of Culinary Arts, Anne Maree Hagge and the Bakehaus team. Having served the ADF for almost 15 years – it is no surprise that any significant visitor to the Bindoon Army Camp would stop by the bakehaus. This “eye candy” has always been very welcome by the locals and today’s visit by Prince Harry is the icing on the cake.
