An estimated 1,800 people braved the elements to enjoy the Shire of Chittering’s inaugural Taste of Chittering event which was held at the Lower Chittering Hall and Village Green on Saturday 7 September.
Over 100 local or neighbouring businesses and community organisations participated in the event which boasted “all things Chittering in one place on one day”.
Chittering’s local wineries – Bindoon Estate, Briery Estate, Glenowen, Kyotmunga, Stringybark and White Dog Farm – offered tastings and sales in their own licensed nook, with the merriment added to at midday when the Sambanistas drumming group complete with exotic dancers passed through.
Unfortunately due to the wet conditions a lot of stalls moved from the increasingly damp Village Green to the protected comfort of the hall verandah, but this did not deter visitors from heading out onto the grass to peruse the remaining stalls, grab a kebab and take a pony ride. The free “Slow Down Enjoy the Ride in (& to!) Chittering” giveaway bags were extremely popular and added to the bright orange theme of the day.
The gravel area around the hall was a hive of free activity all day, with inflatable squash, mini mini-golf, a hay-bale maze, maraca and whistle making, airbrush tattoos and baby animals to pet.
The Shire would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Roadwise, the Chittering Wine Trail Association and Orchard Glory Farm Resort for their sponsorship of the event, along with thanking local businesses for their support, including but not limited to The Maze.
