The Mullewa Muster was held on 1 June. It stood up to its name and mustered over 3,200 spectators to watch cowgirls and cowboys from around the country chasing the dollars from one of the highest-paying rodeos in Australia. A prize pool of over $35,000 and gold buckles on offer for every event!

Western Australian competitors shone this year with Bullsbrook’s Dillan Ruff taking out the All Round Cowboy title after scoping the pool in the team roping (first and second places), and a third in the calf roping.

The ever-consistent and talented cowgirl Stacey McCarthy was crowned the All Round Cowgirl for the day. She sped around the barrels in a blistering time on Marvin to win the Ladies Barrel Race. Her trusty 20-year old pally gelding helped her to win the Ribbon Plucking completion in the Ladies Undecorating.

Jurien Bay’s steer riding cowgirl Courtney Reinke took top honours in the Juniors, with an extremely quick time in the Junior Breakaway and the one rein barrel race effort grabbing her a second in the Under 18’s event.

The Open Saddlebronc was a tight contest with Jack Morris and eastern states competitor Ben Wickham sharing first place riding the Bindoon Broncs supplied the Oversbys.
The event has grown in the seven years it has been running with the ever-popular Adam Brand, Drew McAlister and SeleenMac providing the entertainment this year.

The next big event in the south of the state will be Bindoon Show and Rodeo on the 17 October. The talent pool is deep so it promises to be another spectacle this year. Anyone interested in finding out more can check out the Bindoon Show website, www.bindoonshow.com.
