The annual Moora Bed race took place on Wednesday 16 December, with hundreds of people gathered in the main street to enjoy the crazy spectacle. 14 teams entered the race representing local schools, businesses and health services. The creatively decorated hospital beds raced against the clock as the community gathered for a pre-Christmas catch up. Street markets offered food and there were arts and crafts on offer as well as entertainment for kids.
The event, which was started by local doctor Bernard Chapman about eight years ago, is now used to raise funds for YouthCARE which supports the local Chaplaincy program.
YouthCARE area chaplain for the Mid West and organiser of the event Doug Mcghee said this year’s Bed Burnout focused on having “good, clean fun”. The fastest bed winner was Central Midlands Senior High School, with local police clocking their speed at 23 kilometres per hour.
Mr McGhee said the event was so successful he hoped to organise it again next year.
