Everyone brought an extra woolly for the Moora-Miling Pasture Improvement Group’s AGM dinner held in the scenic courtyard of the historic Berkshire Valley homestead on Feb 23rd. The evening chill didn’t deter nearly 60 MMPIG members from attending and all tables were filled to capacity. Tony White, MMPIG Chairman said “Once again I feel very privileged that here we are as one of the oldest farmer groups in the state, enjoying a drink under the stars where some of our pioneering families would have done in earlier years. It is a very fitting venue for our group.”

The event kicked off with the AGM and the current committee were re- elected including Tony White as Chairman. Rob Wood stepped doScreen Shot 2016-03-02 at 2.38.26 pmwn as Patron and nominated John Bullock to take on the role. Dinner was then served, with Nat Tonkin and her Moora Tennis Club helpers not letting us down once again with a delicious meal of succulent chicken on mango rice or juicy steak all served with mixed salad and potatoes. During dessert, the guest speaker Bob Nixon from Kalannie shared his farming, Nuffield Scholarship and travel stories to an encouraging crowd.

As a special door prize, West Coast Wool donated a night at the Crown hotel in Perth. The lucky winner was a delighted Angela Humphry – well done !! Once again this event wouldn’t be possible without the sponsors and helpers that bring it all together.

Tony said “Many thanks to Fred and Mary Hamilton for allowing MMPIG to use Berkshire once again, MMPIG’s principal sponsor Rabobank who supplied all the
beer and wine, to Nat and her team for catering, and the committee for putting it all together. Finally I thank our outgoing Patron, Rob Wood for his support of our group over the years, and his contribution to agriculture in the district over the last 60 years. Our group wish Rob and Maria all the best in the next stage of their life. If you happen to see a Texel ram walking along Cottesloe beach one morning there will be a fair chance you will see Maria close by, but Rob will be in the members lounge at the WACA enjoying every ball played without the worry of sheep being without water, or CBH being privatised or not!”
