The Northern Valleys News is once again proud to be a sponsor of the Hopes ‘n’ Dreams Pink Classic being held at the Gingin Campdraft Arena on Sunday 25 March.
This remarkable event not only showcases the talent of it’s over-40 competitors, it is also a valuable fundraiser for Breast Cancer Network Australia and part of a national series of events that have collectively raised almost $50,000 since their inception in 2016.
The concept for the fundraising race was developed by Carina Stephens, who ran Pink Lady classics in QLD 2016 which expanded to events being held in NSW, QLD and WA in 2017. Carina says, “I wanted to give men and women over 40 their confidence back. I wanted to get them and myself back onto a horse for a good reason — raising money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.”
Here in WA, Carina has placed the organising reins in the capable hands of rodeo matriarch, Sharron McCarthy. Her son Wade (the champion bullrider on our back cover this issue) and his wife Tenika are also part of the sponsorship team as dealers for SweetPro. Loyd Niven WA SweetPro distributor together with SweetPro Australia are the major sponsors of the WA Event which this year in 2018 includes a Pink Lady Classic: Cutting, Campdraft and Barrel Race for 40+ riders. Another WA business DrumSox is supporting the event with uniquely designed Hopes n Dreams barrel covers.
Barrel racing is a truly special event in the rodeo world, and one of the fastest, where horse and rider compete against the clock with speed, skill and strategy. Last year’s winner, Gingin local Lisa Edwards, blitzed the race in just 19.239 seconds on horse Coldplay. This year six Australian Brumbies will be offered for auction towards the end of the three Events (Cutting, Campdraft and Barrel Race) donated for auction by Joe Hughes from 4BP Australia
Each rider in the Hopes ‘n’ Dreams Pink Lady Barrel Classic needs to raise a minimum of $250 to compete, and you can donate through the website below. Be sure to follow the Facebook event page “Gingin WA ~ Pink Lady Classic ~ 2018” to be kept up date with information and to see when your favourite riders have reached their target and been cleared to enter!
Events like this rely on the generosity of sponsors and spectators and we hope to see lots of local faces at the arena on the 25 March!
If you are a local business you can also support this event – and it’s cause – by donating product as prizes. There are opportunities for stall holders at the event too. Contact either Sharron McCarthy on 043 981 4415 or Carina Stephens on 044 831 2642 or email carina.stephens@bigpond.com. To register for the competition you can contact Sharron or follow the links on the Facebook page.
