Members for The Agricultural Region, Hon Martin Aldridge MLC and Hon Paul Brown MLC have congratulated the State Government and the Royal Agricultural Society for continuing to support agricultural shows throughout the state by providing free entry to children.
The announcement comes as part of the State Government’s $2 million commitment towards promoting attendance at the Perth Royal Show and agricultural shows throughout regional WA.
“Allowing children who are 12 years and under free entry to regional agricultural shows is an initiative that encourages them to understand and support the efforts of the local communities,” Mr Aldridge said.
“With the cropping season now looking above average throughout most areas of the agricultural region, we are hoping that the many shows across the state will be well attended.”
“We hope that this initiative will boost the numbers.”
Mr Brown said that agricultural shows are not only important to local communities, but are also an important tool for people to learn how their food gets from the paddock to the plate.
“The Perth Royal Show and agricultural shows throughout WA allow city and country people to interact with each other and to appreciate the hard work and endeavour that form the back bone of the agricultural and horticultural industries,” Mr Brown said.
“It also enables locals to exhibit their handiwork and crafts, along with livestock and fresh produce.”
The Nationals WA Members of Parliament will be attending agricultural shows across the state to ensure that the citizens of regional WA are able to have access to their MP’s and can express any concerns and issues that they may have for their area.
The $800,000 that has been allocated for free entry to regional agricultural shows is being funded through Royalties for Regions.
