The masters fund-raising game held at the recent Mortlock Gingin Eagles versus Calingiri Cougars match was a huge success. On a glorious sunny winter’s
day crowds came to show their support for burns victim Michael Gunton – even GWN TV cameras were there taking news footage. The event raised $3,656 which
added to previous fund-raising efforts, totaling over $5,000.

This money has enabled Michael Gunton to buy a car so that he can gain some independence from family and carers. Now that he has some movement back
in his badly burned hands, he can drive himself to and from hospital each day, rather than having to catch taxis, which was very expensive.

Owning a car and having some new independence has also improved his emotional recovery immensely. It’s nice to finally see a smile on his face, remembering that he’s only just turned 21 (the day after the Masters Match), and it’s been a lot for a young man to cope with.

Event organiser Lynley Fewster says, “We hope to do something similar next year. It will be known as the ‘Michael Gunton Masters Charity Trophy’ and
the money raised will go to a worthwhile charity or recipient nominated by the football club.”

The Rockingham Rams Masters have been wonderful with their support of the concept and are looking forward to a rematch. They truly enjoyed their visit
to Gingin. Thanks also to our LIMP guys who played great football and embraced the spirit of the day with great passion and enthusiasm. Thank you to them
and their families for helping us raise so much money. Thank you also to local businesses, players and friends that donated raffle prizes, awards and money for food items to help make the day such a success.
