Two quite different artworks created by members of the Bindoon Arts and Crafts Group will be on display at the Bindoon Remembrance Day Service to be held at the Bindoon War Memorial on 11 November.
To commemorate the very special occasion of the 100-year anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, the artists have created heartfelt works which will be on display at the service.
Local quilter Genette Walsh has created a beautiful Remembrance Day quilt featuring appliqué imagery paying tribute to the soldiers who fought in the wars, including the iconic red poppy and ANZAC hat. The quilt is for sale at $250 and Genette is hoping it will be purchased by someone for whom it will have a special meaning.
Another Bindoon Arts and crafts group member, Julie Conway, worked for approximately six months creating an amazingly detailed mosaic to honour the unknown soldier.
Julie was inspired by an artwork she had seen in Tasmania – an image made up of hundreds of portraits of fallen soldiers. She painstakingly created the image on two large plywood boards which are intended for outdoor display. Her piece is also for sale at $1150 and would be ideal for a RSL venue or war memorial.
The Bindoon Arts and Crafts group operates out of the historic Brockman Centre on the corner of Great Northern Highway and Tea Tree Road where they have a wonderful facility including a shop and workrooms.
“We love to gather and support each other in our work,” says member Julie Conway. “We are open nearly every day now with different sessions for different groups – including a daytime mums and bubs group and an evening session for those who work.”
