Community groups and not for profit organisations are being encouraged to apply for funds under the Regional Grants Scheme and Community Chest Fund which opened in November.

Member for Moore Shane Love MLA said the Wheatbelt Development Commission would have available $1.1 million under the Wheatbelt Regional Grants Scheme and a further $370,000 through the Wheatbelt Community Chest Fund.

“I urge community, public and not for profit organisations to contact the Wheatbelt Development Commission about a funding application,” Mr Love said.

“These two Royalties for Regions-funded programs are intended to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the regions.

“The Moora Speedway upgrade, Kalannie CRC’s Movies in Motion program, Dandaragan’s Community Resource Centre, Toodyay’s footbridge, the Dalwallinu Shire’s Exploring Wildflower Country project and the Jurien Bay foreshore and jetty redevelopment project have all benefitted in the past from these funds.”

The Regional Grants Scheme offers large grants of up to $300,000 for projects that attract investment, create job opportunities and improve the quality of life in the Wheatbelt while the Community Chest Fund supports one-off grants of up to $20,000 for grassroots projects.

The current funding round for the Regional Grant Scheme closes on December 11, while the Community Chest Fund applications will be accepted and processed on a monthly basis until the funding pool is spent.
