Sunday 9 July was an extra special day for Ledge Point resident Olga Marshall who turned 100 years young.
Deputy Shire President Cr Sam Collard paid Mrs Marshall a special visit and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers in honour of her centenarian milestone. Olga (neé Sumpton) was born in East Fremantle on 9 July 1917 during World War I. She spent her youth there and finished school at 13 in order to work in a newsagency on Canning Highway. When she was 18 she met her future husband Ken Marshall who happened to be a friend of her employer and, after a five year courtship, Olga and Ken married and had daughter Kaye.
A resident of Ledge Point for the past 20 years, Olga enjoys good health and lives independently within close proximity to Kaye. Olga is the proud grandmother of four and great-grandmother of 12. She enjoys crocheting and crosswords, bakes cakes for her family, loves her seaside home, and has a little Maltese-cross called Sooky to keep her company. When asked what her secret is to a long life Olga replied, “Ledge Point fish, Gingin beef, the occasional tipple of apple cider… and lots of luck!’’
