We live in the Northern Valleys because it is a beautiful place to be. As farmers, landowners and residents we know how important caring for our natural
environment is. So introducing a system to reduce, reuse and recycle as much waste as possible at the Show seemed the natural thing to do.

A goal of our Show U R Green project is to compost and recycle as much as possible. This year show-goers will have 3 bins to choose from when they finish unwrapping new toys, munching on delicious food or drinking their favourite drop. The green lid bin will be just for left over food and the biodegradable/compostable packaging that we are encouraging stallholders to use. The materials from this bin will be composted. The yellow lid bin will be for recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper, bottles and — like recycling bins used at home. These will go to a facility for reprocessing into new
resources.

The red lid bin is the one we want to avoid using. It will be for anything that doesn’t fit the list for the green or yellow lid bins and this rubbish will go to landfill to be buried. There will be signs on the day to give you a hand. After the Show, waste consultants will audit the material collected from the bins so we will have an idea of how well we did using the bins correctly and diverting waste from landfill.

As the Show draws closer we are busy putting final touches on the planning for the event. We welcome, and are in need of, any skilled or unskilled volunteers who have half an hour or more to spare helping out before, during or after the Show – email enquiry@bindoonshow.com or phone 0457103033.

Entries forms for the Show’s competitions are due by 6 October. Pick up a Show Schedule from a local outlet or go to www.bindoonshow.com
