Christian was jubilant by the recent announcement of the Coalition to provide $615million for the Swan Valley Bypass, in the heart of the Pearce electorate.

“I have now driven 13,000km around Pearce in the last couple of months and the people of this electorate have borne the brunt of Western Australia’s growth and that of the mining industry with congestion on key arterial roads,” Mr Porter said.

“Now finally all the hard work to get Federal funding for the major road works needed in the electorate can become a reality with Tony Abbott’s commitment.

“The Swan Valley Bypass will ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and provide a much needed link between regional WA and Perth city.

“It will deliver economic benefits to the industrial estates near Bullsbrook and Ellenbrook as well as the many other business communities in surrounding regions.

“Importantly it will allow people to spend less time on congested roads and more time at home with their families by taking traffic off the Great Northern Highways and West Swan Road.”

The project involves the construction of a new 40km highway between the intersection of Tonkin and Reid Highways and Great Northern Highway near Muchea. Connecting roads will be upgraded and new interchanges constructed.

The State Government will oversee construction of the bypass, which is due to commence in 2016. “If the Coalition wins Government this announcement will be great news for the people in the electorate of Pearce,” Mr Porter said.

Anne Sibbel of BRAA, shared Christian’s enthusiasm but highlighted the real benefits of the bypass will only be achieved if the upgrades are made at the entry to allow for wide loads, which under the current plan are not accommodated.

Christian acknowledged Anne’s concern , he hoped that maybe with the extra funding by a coalition government, Main Roads would find the resources to upgrade the entry points to achieve wide load capability.

Christian encouraged Anne and the community to continue to voice their support of the bypass to include entry upgrades to allow wide loads.
